Nelly Awkar-Lazo, M.D.

Dr. Nelly Awkar-Lazo was born and raised in Lebanon and moved to the United States after she earned her medical degree from the Lebanese University in Beirut. She settled in New Jersey and completed her residency in internal medicine at Mount Sinai in New York and St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center in New Jersey. She then completed her fellowship in oncology and hematology at Seton Hall University as a chief fellow in her fellowship program.

During her fellowship, Dr. Awkar-Lazo published in various medical journals including the Journal of Clinical Oncology, in which she authored numerous articles and case reports in her clinical research.

Dr. Awkar-Lazo is fluent in French, Arabic and Spanish.

Patient care philosophy

Dr. Awkar-Lazo is a dedicated oncologist who believes the most important aspect of cancer treatment is the heartfelt compassion and respect she has for each of her patients. Above everything, Dr. Awkar-Lazo believes that treatment must be geared toward each individual patient and not the disease. “To cure sometimes, treat often, comfort always” is Dr. Awkar-Lazo’s key to developing a personal relationship of trust with each of her patients and to implementing her treatment methods.
