Abhishek Kumar, M.D.

Biography

Abhishek Kumar, M.D. is a dedicated and well-rounded radiation oncologist with a passion for delivering high-quality cancer care through both clinical practice and academic leadership. Dr. Kumar attended Duke University for his undergraduate studies where he triple majored in biomedical engineering, chemistry, and biology. He earned his medical degree from the University of California, San Diego School of Medicine, where he also completed a research year receiving a Master’s of Advanced Studies in Clinical Research.

He completed his internship in Internal Medicine and went on to pursue a residency in Radiation Oncology at Duke University School of Medicine, where he developed a strong foundation in clinical care, evidence-based treatment, and multidisciplinary collaboration. He was selected as Chief Resident in his final year at Duke.

Dr. Kumar has also been actively involved in professional organizations and has been elected to national leadership positions in radiation oncology. He meets with Congress members annually in Washington, D.C. to advocate for patients with cancer He has also contributed to healthcare advancement through roles at PremedHQ, The Advisory Board Company, and Doximity.

Dr. Kumar has won many American Society of Clinical Oncology Merit Awards for his research in genitourinary malignancies and has 30 peer-reviewed publications. In recognition of his research contributions in prostate cancer, he was awarded the prestigious Roentgen Research Award in 2025.His interests include medical education, leadership, and the integration of research into clinical practice. Dr. Kumar values patient-centered care and strives to empower patients through informed decision-making and compassionate treatment.
